Ritz-Carlton Evrima Itinerary, Current Position, Ship Review

Luxury cruise operator Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours also is in the midst of adding high-end, 228-passenger, yachtlike vessels. Evrima is not particularly aimed at those who would normally choose a cruise, but affluent guests used to staying in Ritz-Carlton properties or equivalent and looking for a similar experience at sea. One of the most unusual categories are the Loft Suites with the bedroom on the lower level and a staircase leading to the lounge area upstairs where floor to ceiling glass doors lead out to the terrace. The difference between Evrima and other luxury ships is evident as soon as you step aboard. The swish interiors, decorated with a mix of modernist artworks carefully placed throughout and decorating the walls, exude a refined aura. I disembarked on Mallorca halfway through the seven-night inaugural sailing, which concluded in Nice, France, on October 22, 2022. When Evrima anchored off the coast of St. Tropez, the Marina, open only when the ship is at anchor, unfolded with floating platforms and a bevy of water toys, like paddleboards, sailboats, kayaks, and snorkeling accoutrements. Members will also earn one Elite Night Credit per night (which counts toward Marriott Bonvoy elite status) and can enjoy a private members-only reception.

Fellow Passengers

There also are two massive, 1,091-square-foot Owner's Suites at the back of the vessel with giant, 635-square-foot wraparound balconies. The customer mix mainly comprises couples, though there are also family groups, some quite extensive, attracted by the flexible suite options and Evrima’s Ritz Kids Club. Guests tend to be younger than average for ocean cruising, normally in their 50s, with around half having never cruised before and 40 per cent already familiar with the Ritz-Carlton brand.

It monitors the vessel's electrical systems and is connected 24-7 to ABB's infrastructure ashore. The system monitors all linked devices and sends real-time data analytics for maintenance (predictive and planned) and online support. The yacht Evrima is powered by four MAN marine diesel engines (model 9L32/40, total power output 18 MW), as opposed to the new trend for LNG-powered passenger ships. The diesel-electric propulsion is with common rail fuel injection, providing better fuel efficiency at various speeds.

We set sail with 220 guests, a handful of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection corporate team members, 245 Ritz-Carlton ladies and gentlemen (as the brand calls those working on board), 1,800 bottles of Moët & Chandon, and one Travel + Leisure editor (me). The Bonvoy link also makes Evrima a more fertile ground for multigenerational travelers. Notably, the ship is equipped with a children's playroom -- called Ritz's Kids -- on Deck 8 that's open for children 4 to 12 years of age (for a fee; $45 per child for three hours). Yet according to Prothero, most sailings have only had a handful of children on board, with holiday sailings having a few more than the norm.

Ft. signature suite has a dining and living area which opens to a terrace on one side and bedroom on the other. Ft. terrace suites, have movable air walls, which allow you to connect two suites into one. Meals, drinks, in-suite champagne, Wi-Fi and personal concierge are included in the fare. Even the ninth-deck Spa Terrace (one of Prothero’s favorite spots because “when we’re moving, you can see the front of the ship, so the view is amazing”) had a small crowd in the whirlpool. I didn’t linger on the Spa Terrace, but came back the next morning for a deep-tissue massage in one of the five treatment rooms and a sumptuous nap in the indoor-outdoor relaxation area.

Those at uncovered tables will be offered blankets should the evening breeze require. With space for 30 diners, it is the smallest restaurant on the yacht. Diners tend to dress up, which for men is a jacket and open collar. S.E.A. is a fixed tasting menu experience, which varies by destination. The yacht was built in a Spanish shipyard which specializes in highly technical, research vessels.

Due to fire and safety regulations, most of the ship's spaces are sectioned off and subdivided, with metal walls dividing restaurants from lounges and bars. Ritz-Carlton ships pioneered an open floorplan concept ("fluid and transparent") designed to "break down the traditional boundaries between dining and drinking areas". It has a large living and dining room, secondary seating area, bedroom with walk-in closet, two full baths and a 635 sq. Ft. loft suites are unique in that they are two levels on decks 4 and 5. Deck 5 has a large marble powder room, dining area, living room and terrace.

The maiden voyage was supposed to start a Caribbean itinerary program extending through March 28, when was planned a 12-day Transatlantic repositioning crossing from the Caribbean to Europe (Barbados to Lisbon Portugal). The ship's propulsion consists of two Azipods (by ABB) with total power output 15 MW. Azipod D are azimuth thrusters ideal for smaller-sized vessels as they require lower installed power. The unit's electric drive motor is installed in the pod and submerged outside the hull, thus allowing more space for passenger cabins. The thrusters have the ability to turn 360 degrees which increases the ship's maneuverability and allows access to ports without the need of tugboat assistance. The ship hosted the “first-ever Marriott Bonvoy member reception at sea,” according to Marriott CEO Anthony Capuano, who Zoomed in for the occasion.

Finally, give a sentence or two on why the cruise is worth booking. There's no denying the 623-foot, 300-guest ship is still something of a playground—you could fit three mega yachts (which start at about 60 meters) on the length of Evrima. It’s perfect for those who dream of a Below Deck-style getaway with enough space to make new friends. But it still manages to feel special, especially in its quiet spaces and the moments between tiring yourself out ashore and getting a nightcap amid the Observation Deck’s rowdy piano bar singalongs.

Upon embarkation, your first taste of Evrima is the Living Room on Deck 4, which is not unlike a hotel lobby. Where cruise lines would typically aim to dazzle you with the atrium, Ritz-Carlton Yacht Club plays it differently. Elegant yet laidback, the Living Room is not a hotbed of cruise activity but instead a place to relax and enjoy the journey. The Living Room also sets the tone for the ship's interior aesthetic.

I was off to The Evrima Room, the fourth-deck main dining room serving three meals a day. I ordered the charred octopus (all the fish and seafood on board are sourced locally from ports every three days), heirloom tomato risotto, and a lemon tart decked out with mini meringues and sugar-spun ornamentation. Prothero explained how The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection structures itineraries aboard the Evrima. With a maximum capacity for 26 diners, S.E.A. is small yet not quite secluded.

Staterooms include 27x Signature Suites, 18x Grand Suites, 12x Loft Suites (2-deck accommodations), 90x Terrace Suites. Terrace Suites are connecting cabins (with a soundproof blind wall in between) easily combined to reduce the cabins number from 149 to 107 (when the mega-yacht is privately chartered). The 300-passenger ship Evrima was designed by Tillberg Design (Sweden) as a "mega-yacht - cruise ship" hybrid. The custom-built superyacht was even dubbed "anti-cruise ship". There are five treatment rooms, each with a terrace, so guests have the option of being inside or outside. The men’s and women’s locker rooms have sauna and steam rooms.

The terrace alone is more than twice the size of Evrima's Terrace-category suites (which come in at 300 square feet) and larger than all the other suite categories. As can be seen in the photos, there's also lots of deck-top lounge space for sunning, including a back-of-the-ship area with a small pool on Deck 8 called the Mistral Terrace and a forward-looking area on Deck 9 called the Spa Terrace. The Mistral Terrace doubles as a venue for alfresco lunch and dinner, with a seafood bar and prime cuts of meat grilled to order. The main Evrima Room restaurant is on the same deck at the stern, though other dining venues are scattered across different decks, as are outdoor spaces with the sheltered Marina Terrace on Deck 3 where Evrima’s marina is housed. Evrima is the first of three sleek superyachts marking hotel giant Ritz-Carlton’s debut in the cruise world as the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. Originally due to launch in February 2020, the all-suite ship suffered a catalogue of delays that caused the maiden voyage to be put back eight times until it finally departed Barcelona in October 2022.
